This week has been a bit interesting as I’m still struggling to get through the day without taking a nap but I’m now finding myself wide awake for an hour or so in the middle of the night. High levels of progesterone are responsible for making me drowsy but they can also disturb sleep and boy, have they really been doing so! I usually just grab a snack and force myself back to sleep which can take anything from 15 minutes to an hour sometimes more. This can be frustrating especially when I think of the busy day ahead and the precious moments of sleep I’m missing. I really need every minute I can get. This is a good time to start practicing sleeping on your left side. This improves blood flow and flow of nutrients to the fetus.
Scurrying off to the toilet more often than I thought possible also wakes me up once or twice. I drink as much fluids as I can during the day and cut down on late afternoon to evening drinks. Lately that has helped as I then only need to go once at night then first thing in the morning. Big Win!
Baby is now the size of a prune and this week the fingerprints are coming into place. At this stage baby is now a fetus. 2 more weeks and I’ll be able to see you. I can’t wait!
Tip of the week: Take a nap or 2 during the day and drink less fluids closer to the end of the day for less sleep disturbances due to potty breaks.
