I greet you in the Mighty Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The question I will focus on today is whether unmarried Christians should Masturbate?
I feel blessed to be able to make some contributions to this important topic, before I inject my thoughts on this subject, I think it is very important for us to search for answers in the Word of God. The Bible clearly denounces all manner of sexual impurity and fantasies (one of the root causes of masturbation). These also involve full on sexual relationships, whether actual or mental.
Let’s open our Bibles to the book of Job 31:1, I am reading from the NKJV
I have made a covenant with my eyes; Why then should I look upon a young woman?
The Book of the Song of Solomon warns the unmarried
“Do not stir up nor awaken love” please read 2:7;3:5 and 8:4.
The temptation to masturbate is not helped by the fact that daily we are surrounded by a sex-saturated culture. Our eyes and minds are continually bombarded on all sides by sexually loaded messages, which promote the idea that your sexuality is simply another human appetite that needs to be satisfied, akin to thirst for water, or hunger for food.
Confronted by such conditions, it is very easy for the unmarried believer to imagine that he/she is the only one in the country waiting to engage in sex, instead of waiting to do it within the confines ordained of God in Holy matrimony. The pressure is enormous.
Let us go back to the Word of God again, the Bible warns the believer in Matthew 5:27-28 (NKJV) that:
27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery. 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
So brothers just looking lustfully is all it takes to sin. Given this important message from the above passage – it is very important for us to examine how we dress, not just from day to day, but in Church (especially the ladies). This is another subject that we shall explore in my subsequent posts.
The Great Apostle Paul, said that the believer is expected to learn to control his/her thoughts in. 2 Corinthians 10:5 NKJV
This view is echoed by James the Apostle, who says:
“14. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death”. James 1:14-15 NKJV
Kanapaine vasati varoora kana kuroorwa pano; Paul says that “but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion” Corinthians 7:9 (NKJV)
Roorai vakomana, roorwayi vasikana…
Naturally my married brothers and sisters must at this point be wondering whether or not masturbation is approved in the confines of marriage according to the Bible… For my take on that and a chance for us to discuss, look out for my next article.
