Subject Matter: EXPECTED COLD SPELL OVER THE COUNTRY FROM SUNDAY 15 TO THURSDAY 19 JULY 2018
The Meteriological Services Department wishes to advise the public that another cold spell is expected to affect the country from Sunday 15 to Thursday 19 July 2018. This is due to pressure surges off the south-east cost of Douth Africa pushing cold and moist southeasterly airflow into Zimbabwe causing a sharp drop in daytime temperatures particularly over the Southern and Central parts of the country.
From Sunday the 15th of July 2018, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matebeleland South, Southern areas of Midlands (Zvishavane to Gweru), Masvingo, Manicaland, Mashonaland East and Harare Provinces should become progressively cloudy and windy accompanied with light rain and drizzle. Daytime temperatures are expected to drop to below 15 degrees Celcius between Sunday the 15th and Wednesday the 19th of July 2018 in the highlighted areas. However, from Thursday 19 July 2018 onwards… daytime temperatures should gradually rise.
While the areas highlighted earlier should experience a marked decline in daytime temperatures, the drop will be evident but not huge in Matabeleland North, Mashonalnd West and Mashonaland Central Provinces.
- The public is urged to take reasonable precautions to protect themselves from these cold weather conditions
- Warm clothing should be a priority
- The use of braziers should be done with supervision
The department will continue monitoring the conditions and update the public accordingly. We are also available on Twitter, Facebook and Whatsapp.
